On Monday, former India captain Virat Kohli completed 11 years in Test cricket. On the anniversary of his debut in red-ball cricket, Virat Kohli took to social media to share a special video of his journey in India's whites. In the 17-second clip, which Virat Kohli posted on his Twitter handle, he can be seen remembering his biggest achievements in the longest format of the game, including match-winning hundreds, series triumphs, and having a blast out there in the middle with his India colleagues.

In his 11-year-career Test career so far, Virat Kohli has collected 8043 runs at an average of 49.95. Earlier, the Delhi-born batter was averaging well over the 50 mark in the longest format, but a string of underwhelming scores against Sri Lanka at home in March meant brought that number down to less than 50. Virat Kohli also has 27 tons and 28 fifties, including his highest score of 254 against South Africa in Delhi.

Notably, Virat Kohli's last hundred in international cricket came in a Test match against Bangladesh in November 2019. In 2018, Virat Kohli hit his peak in the format with ICC naming him the Test player of the year.

However, didn't have an impressive start to his Test career as he could score four and fifteen in the two innings of his debut Test against the West Indies in the Caribbean. On both occasions, Fidel Edwards had sent him back to the pavilion.

Coming back to Virat Kohli's current state of affairs, the 33-year-old has gone more than 100 games without a century in all formats. Even his numbers in the Indian Premier League weren't impressive.

In the tournament's latest edition, Virat Kohli once again disappointed his fans, as he could only make 341 runs with a poor average of 22.73 in 16 games. Kohli’s run in the IPL was a horror show, to say the least as he registered three golden ducks in the same tournament for the first time in his career.

But legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has backed Virat Kohli to find his groove soon.

“Cricket is pretty much a confidence sport, Virat is pretty much a confidence player as well. When he is on song, he scores runs after runs and sometimes, it is not going well, it can be a tough place to be. He has got enough experience, knows himself, and knows his game. Having that break, will do him a world of good. I am keen to see how he comes back, we have the World Cup just around the corner and I think India will need the experienced players to help steady the ship,” Glenn McGrath told NDTV.

Earlier, McGrath's Australian teammate and captain Ricky Ponting voiced his support for Virat Kohli.

“It (poor form) is going to happen to everyone at some stage. Virat’s probably had a 10 or 12-year run where hasn’t had many down times,” the former Australian captain said in an episode of the ICC Review.

“But there was a lot of talk and conjecture around the IPL about how tired and burnt out he might be. That’s for him to work out and assess and find ways to improve, whether it’s a technical thing or a mental thing. I’m sure, being the absolute professional that he is, that he’ll work it out and work it out pretty quickly,” he added.

“One thing I do know from experience is that quite often you bluff yourself as a player that you’re not actually tired, that you’re not physically or mentally tired. You always find a way to get yourself up for training, you always find a way to get yourself up for game. It’s not until you actually stop and have a couple of days do you realise how tired and fatigued you are,” Ponting said.

“So that might be exactly where Virat Kohli is at now, but I’m pretty sure he won’t stay down for too long,” the legendary cricketer concluded.

On the other hand, Michael Vaughan said that Virat Kohli was too good a player not to bounce back from his current slump and start making centuries yet again.

“He is too good a player not to bounce back and he will have one of those periods again which we saw a few years ago where he got so many centuries on the trot,” said the former England skipper.

Virat Kohli will be back in action for India in the fifth and final Test of the series against England at Nottingham. The match is scheduled to take place in the first week of July at Edgbaston.
