We weren't really expecting to see a new update for VVVVVV in 2021. But here we are, talking about the new VVVVVV update called version 2.3.

VVVVVV GETS MASSIVE UPDATE DROP – 11 YEARS AFTER RELEASE

Award-winning game VVVVVV continues to be played by puzzle platformer fans to this day. It's not like creator Terry Cavanagh hasn't been busy since the game's release since 2010. In fact, the prolific developer worked on 21 titles since then. His most recent work, Dicey Dungeons, is considered by many critics as a great introduction to roguelike deck-building games. It's also not like he doesn't have anything better to do today. In fact, he's currently working on his next title – State Machine, set to release for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

But still, despite all that, we're getting a massive update to VVVVVV. Actually, VVVVVV 2.3 version already exists, currently in its beta build. “As well as generally making the game run better on modern computers,” says Cavanagh, “the update finally adds 60fps support, new editor features (like ghosts) and fixes a huge number of longstanding bugs!”

The huge list of bugs sure is long. Many of the 129 issues in the game's github repository remain unsolved. Cavanagh hopes to fix the remaining 17 open issues with VVVVVV 2.3.

Cavanagh also attributes the success of VVVVVV 2.3 to source contributions. It seems like his decision to make the game's code open-source in celebration of the game's 10-year anniversary paid off.

Cavanagh's dedication to his works doesn't just extend to VVVVVV. He's well-loved by his fans because of his constant updates for his previous works. Talk about dedication – updating your games even after years of release. Not to mention that most, if not all, of his games ship in playable condition.

Meanwhile, some critics say that CD Projekt Red should just fix Cyberpunk 2077‘s bugs and move on to their next project.
