It has been an odd offseason for Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant. It has a lot to do with how he uses his social media accounts — burner Twitter accounts and all.
For most of the summer, Durant’s fingertips have been busy replying to his fans and detractors alike on Twitter, but a gaffe he made earlier this week has left the former NBA MVP scrambling for reasons to explain his action. Durant owned up to using fake Twitter accounts to defend himself on Twitter though it came after he was caught red-handed. In the wise words of the philosopher, Rihanna: “You’re only sorry you got caught.”
Despite all that, Durant is finding support from his fans, his teammates, and even from the Warriors' general manager Bob Myers and head coach Steve Kerr.
During the Warriors’ media day on Friday, Myers and Kerr took turns in downplaying Durant’s bungling the use of Twitter and saying it’s not an issue that would affect the team in any manner.
Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post and Chris Haynes of ESPN netted the following excerpts from both Myers and Kerr.

Kerr "I've said a lot of things in my life I'm embarrassed about. It's not anything that concerns us. We just move on. It's not a big deal."

Durant’s Twitter-gate is going to be talked about for maybe weeks, but like all internet-born commotions, this is also bound to fizzle out.
