Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins has received the COVID-19 vaccine, Head Coach Steve Kerr told the media Sunday morning.

Wiggins was hesitant to receive the vaccine, and was in danger of being unable to play home games for the Warriors due to San Francisco's vaccination mandate. He was reportedly “under the weather” yesterday and missed practice, and one can now assume that he was feeling an immune response to the vaccine that he received at some point in recent days.

Assuming Wiggins received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, he should be good to go for their home opener against the LA Clippers on Oct. 21. Had he remained resistent to the shot, he would've lost his salary for each home game missed, per the league's recent ruling.

Wiggins was a key part of the Warriors' success last season, offering solid wing defense, efficient three-point shooting (he reached a career-high 38% last season) and, ironically, consistent availability—he played 71 of 72 games last year. With All-Star Klay Thompson returing from a two-year injury-riddled absense, Golden State is looking to contend for a title in 2021-22, and Wiggins will be needed as their starting small forward. He can also be used as matching salary should another team's superstar demand a trade down the line.
