Golden State Warriors president Bob Myers compared his team's situation to the popular '80s film “Rocky III.”

At 8-24, the Warriors have not only been getting punched in the mouth but clobbered at times, much like the protagonist Rocky Balboa was when facing the movie's villain Clubber Lang.

The Warriors are riding a season-best three-game win streak, coming off their best win of the season — a 116-102 Christmas Day victory over their bitter rival Houston Rockets — yet it hasn't been this nice for the perennial NBA finalists through this season.

“The comeback story is the best in America,” Myers said over a recent lunch, according to Ann Killion of The San Francisco Chronicle. “This is ‘Rocky III,’ and we just got knocked out by Clubber Lang. We’re not ready for the fight.”

Rocky III has an interesting plot. Having won the Heavyweight title in Rocky II, Balboa became lazy and uninterested due to the lack of challengers. He soon loses his title to Lang, a mercenary-like henchman that punches hard and often.

Though Balboa had lost more than that, as his trainer, cornerman, and longtime father figure Mickey passed away before his fight with Lang (who is played by Mr. T).

Balboa turns to his longtime rival Apollo Creed for guidance and help to get his title back, which he does in epic Stallone-like fashion.

The Warriors had come from five straight trips to the NBA Finals and suffered the loss of Kevin Durant, along with long-term injuries to marksman Klay Thompson and now Stephen Curry. They were downed in six games by the Toronto Raptors, who took the title at the end of last season.

“Nobody could prepare for the abruptness or the degree of it,” said Myers. “We were at the top of the mountain. Instead of walking back down, we got thrown off the top.

“Now we’re at the bottom, with broken limbs.”

They're now in the quest to get their fire back — undermanned and undertrained — but it's something that Myers revels in.

“I think it’s going to be fun to watch us pick ourselves up,” he said.

The Warriors are slowly but surely becoming a better defensive team after several woes in that department to start the season. They are gaining more confidence after seeing they're able to finish out games. While this might not translate into immediate wins, the experience from this season should pay off once Curry and Thompson return and Rocky Balboa is able to fire off one last barrage of punches before the end of the round.
