More than three weeks ago, Conor McGregor got into a public spat with Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green over Instagram, centered around his decision to don a throwback Warriors' No.23 jersey.

However, McGregor quickly revealed that it was made in reference for his longtime friend C.J. Watson. Things quickly escalated after that with the two throwing verbal barbs via social media. The mixed martial arts champion looked back on the event and had this to say about everything, per Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com.

“Actually, I didn’t even engage in it,” McGregor told Helwani in a video mainly about the fighter’s thoughts on Mayweather ahead of their Aug. 26 boxing match. “I had it, and I was there, and I wore it to training one day. And then it ended up on some video or something. And then some guy that wears the jersey reached out. And it was like, ‘Mate, I don’t even know who the (expletive) you are, I don’t know anything about basketball.’

“It just went everywhere. And they say that guy is (expletive) sick. And they said Floyd wanted to smack him as well, so that worked out good for me.”

It was a situation that quickly got out of hand from a simple misunderstanding between two professional athletes that are quite prideful and quick-witted with trash talk. There wasn't any way that either one was going to back down with the comments.

There's obviously no love lost between the two holding the same point of view even after their jabbering. This was in no shape or form going to end in any other fashion with both possessing nearly the same type of bullish personas.

That said, all of this should reach an endpoint once McGregor finally steps in the ring with Floyd Mayweather later this month in a much-anticipated bout.
