Davidson head coach Bob McKillop still remembers Stephen Curry fondly, often offering great praise for his character as well as his accomplishments during his three-year career at the school.

Now nearly 10 years since he first left the school to declare for the NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors icon is still remembered for the unbridled joy he brought to his teammates and coaches, as much as his ridiculous shot-making is still etched in the school's proverbial memory:

“Stephen Curry is somebody that people want to embrace,” said McKillop, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. “His persona, his character; he’s got the character that you want your son, your husband, your father to have. He’s got the persona that is a combination of great confidence but great humility.”

McKillop is now in his 30th season at Davidson, and his years of experience have allowed him to make a pinpoint sports analogy to explain the bond between Curry and the Charlotte area:

“As a kid growing up in Queens, New York, one of the great stories of my time was of Bobby Thompson’s home run,” said McKillop. “‘The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!’ Steph Curry’s career was Bobby Thompson’s home run. That home run lasted for decades. That was one event. One at-bat. Steph Curry’s career at Davidson has resonated the same way as sort of an iconic aspect of sport 10 years ago that now has transcended time and is a treasured memory for anyone who was part of fandom. Davidson College, Charlotte, North Carolina, basketball globally, as well as regionally, as well as nationally.”

Curry made a memorable run to the Elite Eight of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, as a 10th-seeded Davidson knocked off nearly every favorite in their side of the bracket, first (7) Gonzaga 82-76, then (2) Georgetown 74-70, then (3) Wisconsin 73-56 — falling only in the regional championship to Kansas, the eventual national champion.

That is the longest NCAA Tournament run by Davidson to date, and the one moment this small school fondly remembers, as a once scrawny-looking young Stephen Curry gave the school moments that will be cherished forever.
