DeMarcus Cousins may have joined the Golden State Warriors because no one else wanted to pay him, but joining the best team in the NBA has its own set of perks. Namely, Cousins looks to be headed to the playoffs for the first time in his career, and he’s happy about it.

In a new interview with Shams Charania for The Athletic, Cousins spoke about a myriad of issues, including the fallout from his injury and the effects of signing with the Warriors. Included in the discussion, however, was how Cousins plans on taking “full advantage” of his playoff opportunities.

“Any given day could be your last day playing,” Cousins says in the interview. “I can’t wait for the playoffs here, man. The playoffs were always something I’ve wanted to do in my career. Unfortunately, I never had the chance. I plan on taking full advantage.”

After tearing his ACL last season, Cousins has spent the entire offseason and most of this season rehabbing. During his debut against the Los Angeles Clippers, Cousins scored 14 points and put up 6 rebounds in just 15 minutes, before fouling out of the game. Against the Lakers, Cousins looked much more like his old self, fighting for rebounds and facilitating for his other superstar teammates.

While Cousins continues to rehab from his injury and get himself into game shape, the Golden State Warriors seem to finally be clicking after an inconsistent start to the season. They currently sit at the top of the Western Conference with a 33-14 record, and have won nine of their last 10 games.
