Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins has been ruled out for the remainder of the playoffs after suffering a quad injury; a disheartening turn of events considering that he just resumed playing professional basketball back in January after missing almost an entire year due to a torn Achilles he suffered last season.

This was supposed to be Cousins' comeback year; a chance to prove to himself and to the rest of the league that he can still play at an elite level. Instead, he's looking at another injury that might take at least six months to heal.

But the 28-year old big man is determined to bounce back anew. He knows that this recent setback is just another bump in the road and in order for him to get over it, he'll have to work even harder. Cousins believes that he can still be one of the best players in the league, and when asked by ESPN's Nick Friedell and Ohm Youngmisuk about what his motivation, he cited a particular event in one of his pickup games for the Warriors during the offseason.

“Jordan Bell grabbed the ball out of midair and just, like, snatched it,” Cousins recalls. “And I was like, ‘This has never happened to me in my life.' I was like, ‘Damn, I went up for the dunk and he just took it away from me like I wasn't s—.'”

Cousins was blocked by Bell, a sophomore player who can't even average more than four points a game this season. Boogie knows he's better than what he is now and he uses that specific moment to keep the fire burning inside him.

It is unclear if the Warriors will be willing to re-sign Cousins next season or if there are any teams willing to risk a roster spot for him. But he doesn't care. Boogie has been in this situation before. He was already able to show everyone a glimpse of how good he still is.

He will have no problem doing it again.
