Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is lacing up hundred of kids in his native city of Saginaw, Michigan, offering 550 pairs of his signature Converse shoes at the First Ward Community Center.

“Draymond has never forgotten where he comes from. He loves this city,” said Eric Henderson, who helps lead an education program at the First Ward center.

According to MLive.com, while Green will donate these kicks remotely, as kids pre-register at the Draymond Green Back-to-School Converse site and organizers respond with a corresponding pick-up time.

“Because of Covid, we can’t have everybody in the building. … They don’t have to get out of their cars,” said Henderson.

Green played at Saginaw High School and Michigan State University before breaking into the NBA with the Warriors, soon winning three NBA titles in the span of four years.

While Green has plenty of time off with his Warriors way out of the playoff picture, Henderson won't ask him to deliver the shoes himself, as it's customary for this type of event.

“I’d rather he not come right now. I’d hate to put him in a situation where he ends up in a 14-day quarantine,” said Henderson of the Warriors veteran.

Draymond Green is making the most of his free time by carving out his next career, recently appearing on TNT as part of the Inside The NBA crew to fill in for Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith in their respective absences.

The former Defensive Player of the Year signed a deal with Converse after many years with parent company Nike, which bought the iconic brand back in 2003.
