Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green made sure to remember and honor his former Michigan State Spartans teammate Adreian Payne, who tragically passed away on Monday.

Payne was just 31 when he was reportedly shot in front of his home in the early hours of Monday. The suspect was eventually arrested for first-degree murder.

Now, ahead of the Warriors' Game 4 against the Memphis Grizzlies, Green was seen honoring his ex-teammate and fellow NBA player with a small but touching gesture. On his sneakers, he wrote “Long Live 5,” referencing Payne who used to wear no. 5 during his time with the Spartans.

It is truly heartbreaking to see another life get lost because of another senseless killing. Adreian Payne still has a full life ahead of him as he continues to navigate his basketball career after his time in the NBA.

Unfortunately, he wasn't given the chance to do just that after his life was taken mercilessly. Our prayers go to Adreian Payne’s family in these tough times. There is no doubt that he will go down as a Michigan State legend, and for his former teammates like Warriors forward Draymond Green, his legacy as a great human being and basketball player will always be remembered.

Rest in peace.
