The Golden State Warriors play in San Francisco now, but they have made an effort to pay homage to their Oakland roots in recent years.

Golden State reintroduced the ‘We Believe” jerseys popularized by Warriors teams of years past. Now, the Dubs will stamp Oakland on their home court. Literally.

The Warriors released a video showcasing an “Oakland Forever” court design, featuring the color schemes and font of the “We Believe” era.

Perhaps the Warriors are hoping the new look will also help the franchise recapture old successes.

Things have not gone well for Golden State since the team moved to San Francisco. The Warriors were always up against it heading into the 2019-20 season given they would be playing without Klay Thompson (injury) and Kevin Durant (joined the Nets in free agency).

But the hurdle grew that much higher when Stephen Curry broke his hand in just the fourth game of the year. After five straight NBA Finals appearances, the Dubs would finish with the worst record in the NBA.

There was more optimism heading into the upcoming season. Thompson and Curry would be back and fully healthy, and the Warriors also had options with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft. However, the optimism quickly faded.

Thompson sustained an Achilles injury on draft night and was later ruled out for the season. Golden State is still hoping Curry and rookie James Wiseman can make the team competitive, but the loss of Thompson is as crushing spiritually as it is in terms of his absence on the court.

Still, the Warriors will undoubtedly evoke the “We Believe” teams by scratching and clawing throughout the year.
