The Golden State Warriors are currently fighting to stay alive in the Western Conference, as they have a shot at partaking in the NBA's play-in game this year. The front office has done its part in finding depth to the roster, and it seems they're rewarding Gary Payton II for his efforts on his 10-day contract.

Payton II is known for his defensive prowess, who takes after his father Gary Payton. Golden State signed Payton II to a 10-day contract and after a spectacular performance against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, per Anthony Slater.

Payton II has proven to be a force on the defensive end of the court, providing the Warriors a boost when they need it. During their last game against Boston, he came off of the bench for seven total minutes. Though the time was short, Payton II played lockdown defense, giving Golden State a fighting chance whenever he hit the court.

It's unclear whether or not the Warriors decide to keep Payton II on the roster for the long term, as he'll have to play out his second 10-day contract first. However, everything is pointing in the right direction for him to remain on the team, as he is capable of being Stephen Curry's backup.

We'll see if Payton II hits the court in their next game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Warriors are going to need to play stout defense to win that game, as it's a tough matchup for a team fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. The game takes place on Monday night, 7:30 pm eastern.
