Golden State Warriors breakout star Gary Payton II is sticking to what he does best for the rest of the season.

Contrary to what many expected, it is not only Stephen Curry who has been doing all the work for the Warriors this season. Instead, the Dubs unleashed a promising young core that functions well on both ends of the floor.

Scoring-wise, Jordan Poole has become instrumental to the Warriors, having been a reliable co-backcourt star for Curry so far. On the defensive end, it has been mostly Gary Payton II.

Being a son of one of the greatest defenders of all time, Gary Payton II knew early on that defense is an important aspect of the game. Having exposed to how the old school NBA players play D, Payton II vows to ensure that he's always in front of everyone and “touch” them all game long if necessary.

“The league already made it where guys don’t like to be touched,” Payton II said via The Athletic. “So I’m just gon’ touch ’em. It’s that simple. As you can see … a lot of guys don’t like to be touched. Nobody touches them. Nobody’s in their face. They let them do what they want to do. I’m not about to let you sit here and size me up. No. I’m not about to let you do that. You gon’ go one way. If not, you gon’ get up off that ball. And it’s gon’ be hard for you to get it back. By the time you get it back, you gon’ be tired and you gon’ settle. Let’s go.”

To date, Payton II is the Warriors' second best backcourt defender, averaging 1.4 steals per game. He only trail by .3 to Curry who has 1.7 per outing.
