Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers says All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson’s ACL surgery is set for later this week.

Thompson tore his left ACL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. Sometimes, players wait for the swelling to go down in their knee before having the surgery.

All signs point toward the Warriors offering Thompson a five-year max contract this summer once free agency starts on June 30. Thompson isn't eligible for the supermax extension since he didn't make an All-NBA team in 2018-19.

This past season, Thompson averaged 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Warriors. The five-time All-Star shot 46.7 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from beyond the arc and 81.6 percent from the free-throw line.

In the 2019 playoffs, Thompson put up 20.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists. The Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals in six games. Both Thompson and Kevin Durant suffered serious injuries in the Finals.

Thompson will likely be out until February or March of next season. The Warriors could also play it safe with Klay and sit him the entire regular season and then bring him back for the postseason. With Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala still in the fold, the Warriors will surely be a competitive team.
