Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is likely only a day away from making his return, after missing the last five weeks with a Grade 2 MCL sprain that kept him out the last 10 games of the regular season and the last six of the postseason.

Curry led the team with a scoring average of 26.4 points per game, despite playing in only 51 games this season, as his All-Star teammates await his potentially game-changing return.

“It’s exciting for him to get back to the place that he enjoys the most, which is playing basketball,” Durant told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “I’m excited as his brother that he’s out there. We’ll see what happens next game.”

The former two-time MVP was thought to have a chance to play in Game 1, but head coach Steve Kerr and the medical team thought it would be best to exercise caution and give him a few extra days to rest.

Curry's return is bound to bring another layer of depth to an already-deep Warriors team, as they put up an NBA-best 120.4 points per 100 possessions during games in which he played — the best mark in the league's last 20 seasons.

“We’re all a kid-in-a-candy-store excited for him,” said his backup, Shaun Livingston. “He’s excited to be out there with the guys for the camaraderie more than anything. Getting him back, it just opens all the possibilities again for us.”

Up 1-0 in the series, it's still unclear if he will face a restriction, having noted he would be under one if he played in Game 1. But his mere presence on the floor, whether starting or coming off the bench in true Willis Reed fashion, will bring a jolt of energy to a team beginning to find its stride in these Western Conference playoffs.
