Golden State Warriors rookie center James Wiseman is out indefinitely and could miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wiseman left Saturday night's win over the Houston Rockets after an awkward landing on a dunk attempt that was blocked. He underwent an MRI and now could miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury, per Shams Charania of the Athletic and Stadium. Woj notes similar and says a determination will be made after consulting with doctors.

This is just the latest setback in a season full of them for the rookie big man after he was selected No. 2 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. While Wiseman has shown positive flashes in the NBA, injuries and COVID-19 issues kept delaying his development even before this latest injury. He was also in a tough spot with such high expectations playing for a team trying to make the playoffs with Stephen Curry playing at an MVP level.

James Wiseman just had one of his best games of the season against the Washington Wizards on Friday, so this is especially cruel timing for a potentially season-ending injury. If the 19-year-old is indeed done for the year, his rookie campaign will wrap up with averages of 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 21.4 minutes per game.

Without Wiseman in the middle, Kevon Looney will surely get more minutes, as will Juan Toscano-Anderson. And, of course, Draymond Green will continue to play a major role in the frontcourt and likely see more minutes at the 5.

The Warriors are 25-28 and fighting for their lives in the battle for the play-in tournament as they navigate another season without Klay Thompson. The Dubs are currently in the No. 10 spot, 1.5 games ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans. While James Wiseman's absence might not actually hurt them much on the court right now, it will hurt his development and long-term prospects.
