The Golden State Warriors suffered a major setback on Thursday when they learned that All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson is set to miss his second consecutive season, this time around due to a torn Achilles. Nevertheless, the Dubs remain steadfast in their desire to challenge for a title this coming season, as the team has now set their sights on swingman Kelly Oubre Jr. — a deal that according to team general manager Bob Myers is something that is driven by owner Joe Lacob's obsession to win.

After being traded by the Phoenix Suns to OKC as part of the Chris Paul deal, the Thunder have now sent Oubre to the Warriors in a separate deal. The 24-year-old is set to earn $14.4 million, which will send the Warriors way beyond the luxury tax for next term. This, however, is a hit that the Warriors are apparently more than willing to take.

According to Myers, Lacob's incessant desire to keep winning is something that has proven to be pivotal in the Dubs' relentless mindset:

“I'm not saying this because (Lacob) is 15 feet away from me,” Myers said during a news conference Thursday, via Monte Poole of NBC Sports. “I'm so lucky to have an owner and ownership group like I have.

“I don't know if the fans know how lucky they are, but my boss wants to win. My boss has never said, you can't do this, you can't do that. And I'd like to thank him for giving myself and our front office the opportunity to be aggressive, because he wants to win.”

Losing Thompson is a tough, tough blow for the Warriors, but they quickly picked themselves up by signing an able replacement in Oubre. He's no Klay Thompson, but he does slide in nicely to Golden State's lineup for the coming season.
