The Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for at least three months as he is recovering from a broken hand. During their first game without Curry this season, the Warriors will start rookie Jordan Poole alongside D'Angelo Russell against the San Antonio Spurs, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

The Warriors' decision to start Poole comes with little surprise given how light they currently are for depth. There is no replacing a player of Curry's caliber but the best option that they have is to cycle different options into the lineup and see what ends up working out best.

Just because the Warriors have chosen to start Poole now doesn't mean that he will end up sticking in their first unit until Curry is back in the lineup. Rather, this is Poole's opportunity to show the team's coaching staff what he's capable of achieving.

So far this season, Poole is averaging 8.3 points while shooting 22.5 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc. He has been underwhelming on both ends of the floor and has appeared to be too trigger happy looking for his shot at times.

It will be important that Poole shows the Warriors that he is capable of more than being a high volume shooter that converts at a poor clip. He will need to become more consistent while also expanding his impact by being a more willing passer and a more positive contributor on the defensive end of the floor.
