While the top story in the Bay Area should be the Golden State Warriors' quest to win three straight NBA championships, it has actually been Kevin Durant's looming free agency this summer.

The general consensus is that Durant will be leaving the Warriors this offseason, which has caused some to wonder if Durant's impending decision has been a distraction inside Golden State's locker room.

It hasn't seemed to be an issue thus far in the playoffs, as the Dubs dispatched the Los Angeles Clippers in six games in the first round and have jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Houston Rockets in the second round.

Durant has been the main reason for that, as the 30-year-old is averaging 34.3 points per game on 52.7 percent shooting in this postseason.

When asked about how everyone else is now beginning to focus on the competition rather than other things, Durant said he wishes the focus would be on the actual product on the court all season long:

“I feel like you guys should probably start focusing on that in October,” said Durant, via Mark Medina of The Mercury News. “I think that would probably help, so it won't be much of a shock to you once this time of year comes around. But it's so hard to focus on basketball for six months straight, as a player, as an analyst as a beat writer, as fan. … But certain people do that and I feel like a lot of players have that focus and mindset once training camp starts, but a lot of people are late.”

The Warriors will take on the Rockets in Game 3 on Saturday night.
