The Golden State Warriors failed to get a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals against the Houston Rockets after absorbing a 127-105 loss in Game 2 of the series last Wednesday. Even in such a bad loss, however, Kevin Durant managed to stand out, as he led his team with 38 points on an efficient 13-for-22 shooting from the field.

Durant has been performing consistently in the playoffs throughout his career. Although it’s a little harder to appreciate the former league MVP these days because he’s now playing alongside three All-Stars, his greatness on the court remains undeniable, especially in the postseason.

For Kevin Durant, his excellence in the playoffs, when the lights are brighter and the pressure to deliver is heavier, is something he could thank his family for, per Melissa Rohlin of The Mercury News.

“I always had that pressure coming home at nights,” Durant said. “My mom asks me what happened if I had a bad game. My godfather asked me why I didn’t play so well. Just having that little pressure stayed with me as a kid up until today. Just wanting to play well each game. Just wanting to give it my all in practice, shootaround and workouts. And then in games, I can live with myself.”

In these playoffs, Durant is leading the Warriors in scoring with 29.6 points nightly, which isn’t that far from his career postseason average of 28.8 points per game.

With Stephen Curry seemingly not himself right now on offense, the Warriors are going to need Durant to continue being the team’s stabilizer.

Game 3 of their series with Houston is on this Sunday in Oakland.
