Golden State Warriors superstar small forward Kevin Durant says the Phoenix Suns made a great move by hiring Monty Williams as their new head coach.

Durant worked with Williams during the 2015-16 season on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Williams was an assistant coach on OKC that season:

Williams was the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans for five seasons. He went 173-221 during the regular season and 2-8 in the postseason.

If Durant stays with the Warriors after this season, he'll be facing Williams and the Suns at least four times next season. If Durant leaves the Warriors and signs with the New York Knicks like everyone is projecting, Williams and Durant would only see each other twice.

Williams signed a five-year deal with the Suns. Let's see if he actually lasts that long in Phoenix, though. The Suns have a tendency to move on from head coaches very quickly. They fired Igor Kokoškov after just one season.

Durant and the Warriors are up 2-0 on the Houston Rockets in the second round of the playoffs. Game 3 of that series is on Saturday. Durant is averaging 34.3 points per game in the 2019 playoffs. He leads the postseason in scoring while shooting 52.7 percent from the field.
