Among the many notable moves this offseason, the Minnesota Timberwolves were one of the most active teams in the league retooling their roster.

During a recent interview with Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Kevin Durant voiced much praised toward the Timberwolves for putting together a talented roster.

“You look at (Jeff) Teague all the way down to (Karl-Anthony) Towns, that's an All-Star group. You have five All-Star caliber players on the court for Minnesota at the same time, great talented players at once. You have Teague, Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins. Who's the 4 over there? Gorgui Dieng?

“Oh, yeah. Taj Gibson. Then Towns. So you got, what, four All-Star caliber players over there on one team. And why not? Why shouldn't you have that? That's what fans want to see. They don't want to see all role players and a couple good guys. Nah, you want to see all the best players. That's what Minnesota did. Thibs (coach Tom Thibodeau), you know, he's got some cojones. I knew he was going to pull something off.”

Minnesota was able to put together a strong roster together without having to move rising star forward Andrew Wiggins in the process. In the deal that landed them Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls, the front office got the transaction done on an offer that moved Zach LaVine instead of Wiggins to pave the way for the All-Star forward to rejoin his former head coach Tom Thibodeau.

On top of that, the Timberwolves were also able to bring in a former All-Star point guard in Jeff Teague shortly after the start of free agency to help solidify the backcourt following the departure of not only LaVine but also Ricky Rubio via a trade to the Utah Jazz. All of this shifting has formed a roster that could have the potential to challenge the Warriors.

What is most appealing about these moves is that Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns are going to continue to develop into stars in the league. In fact, Towns has an opportunity to make a significant leap next season to become recognized as one of the best players in the league while helping lead the Timberwolves to much success.

Above all else, there is much reason for optimism in Minnesota for the next several seasons as the team could once again become a force in the NBA.
