Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham attacked LeBron James and Kevin Durant on live television the other night regarding their political views. The comments became personal especially as it undermined James’ intelligence and her lack of sensitivity has made Durant believe that she was being racist.

James, she says, should not be listened to since he didn’t finish high school to go play in the NBA. In truth, the Cleveland Cavaliers star finished high school but skipped college for the opportunity to provide for him and his mother through the NBA.

Ingraham released a statement saying that there was “no racial intent” to her comments. Durant shook his head and said, “To me, it was racist.”

In an interview with USA TODAY’s Sam Amick, Durant responded to the derogatory comments made by Ingraham.

“It didn’t hit me. Ignorance is something I try to ignore. That was definitely an ignorant comment. I do play basketball, but I am a civilian and I am a citizen of the United States, so my voice is just as loud as hers, I think – or even louder.”

Later in the interview, he said he hasn’t discussed the comments with James since the story came out. Kevin Durant appears to have taken the high road with regards to Ingraham, saying several times how sorry he is for her.

“Life is much bigger than an opinion, an ignorant comment from someone. It is what it is. I kind of feel sorry for her, because she’s not looking through the lens of being free and what that’s about. It feels bad that she doesn’t know what we came from, or who we are personally. She might actually enjoy being around us, and might actually feel inspired by being around not just me or LeBron but guys in our position, anybody of another color who has risen up and done something positive in life. It might be inspiring to her as well. You never know. It’s kind of sad that she’s so close minded.”

While the idea of Ingraham spending time with LeBron James and Durant may be too far-fetched of an idea, it does speak well of the latter’s desire to be known more personally by those who criticize them.

Regardless of Ingraham’s comments, both players were busy giving back to the community in line with the NBA’s All-Star weekend’s charity events.
