When it comes to NBA players and professional athletes in general, we use the term “legacy” when discussing exactly what the players accomplished during their career.

However, Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant has a different take.

The two-time NBA champion says that legacy is not about how fans, media pundits and fellow athletes view what you achieved; it's about what your kids think about you:

“Legacy, to me, is about what your kids think about you,” said Durant, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “I don't have any kids yet, but someday I will. I usually have these conversations in my head of what it'll be like to talk to my kids, grandkids at some point. All you gotta do is put on the tape.”

Well-said, Kevin.

Of course, some people will put a spin on this and say this is just Durant's way of deflecting criticism from his decision to join the Warriors during the summer of 2016 and possibly for his upcoming free agent decision this summer, but I genuinely believe Durant is being sincere.

Is Durant sensitive and does he care a bit too much about what other people think? Maybe, but that does not change the fact that he is going to care about what his future children think of him more than anything else.

The 30-year-old will be participating in his 10th straight All-Star Game this weekend and will also be aiming for his third consecutive NBA championship this June before hitting free agency over the summer.
