The Golden State Warriors managed to finish their sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Finals. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the entire series was who between point guard Stephen Curry and small forward Kevin Durant would take home Finals MVP.

For the second year in a row, Durant was named the best player in the series. When one reporter tried to inquire about Curry coming up short, he was quick to shut it down.

“Does it matter? We just won two championships back-to-back,” Durant said. “I don't think nobody is worried about that type of stuff, I'm glad that we came out and played a great game tonight and was able to finish the series off. That's the only thing that matters to us.”

There is no doubt that what Golden State has done over the last four years is nothing short of remarkable. Curry has been part of their amazing run from the very beginning. However, he has never been able to establish himself as the best player in the Finals.

The first time around, the award was given to small forward Andre Iguodala for the job he did on both ends of the floor including his defense on LeBron James. Then with Durant's arrival came a need to prove himself after being unable to get the job done his whole career.

The honor had largely been up for debate going into Game 4. However, it appears his disastrous performance in Game 3 may have been the deciding factor compared to Durant's steady performance throughout the series. Regardless, it is clear that the two-time Finals MVP is doing what he can to downplay any talk about Curry's shortcomings.
