Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins is enjoying a career renaissance in the Bay Area after being a disappointment with the Minnesota Timberwolves to start his career. While the former No. 1 pick put up decent numbers with the Timberwolves, he never blossomed into the true franchise cornerstone they were hoping to get after acquiring him from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The end of Kevin Garnett's career coincided with the beginning of Wiggins' career. Garnett tried to push Wiggins to be more in Minnesota, but it didn't really work.

With Wiggins now breaking out with the Warriors, Garnett explained to ESPN's Baxter Holmes the love/hate relationship he has with the forward's game:

“He's one of my favorite players to watch. And he pisses me off at the same time because he has the ability to be on another level.”

Garnett acknowledges that “consistency” was always the issue when it came to Wiggins being a superstar, not talent. While Wiggins isn't a superstar with the Warriors, he has found a level of consistency that has made him an impact player on the best team in the NBA.

The Timberwolves legend also noted that no matter what he tried when it came to motivation, it was always up to Wiggins to make it happen:

“Listen, the one thing I learned about Andrew was that nothing's going to get done to Andrew until Wiggs says it's going to happen,” Garnett says.

It certainly helps to be playing on a winning team alongside superstars instead of having the burden of the franchise on your shoulders. Wiggins has fully bought into his role with the Warriors and is thriving, averaging 19.1 points while shooting a career-high 49.0% from the field and 43.5% from 3-point range. Even if he's never a true superstar, he's now a superstar in his role.
