Klay Thompson has admitted that it was humbling to receive a max contract from the Golden State Warriors despite his injury.

Per ESPN, Thompson reflected briefly on the Warriors' five-year run which resulted in three NBA titles. He pointed out that their success did not come without ‘bumps in the road' such as his ACL injury and Kevin Durant's Achilles tear.

Despite this, Thompson was somehow surprised that he got a max offer from the Warriors. After all, an ACL tear is considered one of the most serious injuries in all of sports. For Thompson, it's a testament to the franchise's loyalty.

“So it was humbling but the Warriors showed their loyalty and their respect for me, offering me that five-year deal,” Thomson said of his new $190 million deal. “Jumped on that as soon as I could, just because the history with this team and the franchise it would be so hard to leave. And the feeling of, you know, unfinished business, getting that close in the Finals, or to the fourth championship — tasting it — just being out of reach. It's the pain of sports, but it's what keeps me motivated.”

Thompson is now a month removed from surgery. The Warriors haven't released an official timeline for his return. However, the five-time All-Star doesn't expect to be back on the floor before All-Star break.

Most analysts believe that the Warriors dynasty is over. But Thompson, like the rest of his teammates, believes that their foundation is still there and those who are writing them off are simply underestimating the three-time champs.
