The race for being the league's 3-point deadeye king is closer than ever with less than a third of the regular season left, as Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson leads the way with 45.4 percent from deep this season.

The next three on the board, Joe Ingles of the Utah Jazz (45.3 percent), Reggie Bullock of the Detroit Pistons (45.2 percent), and George Hill of the Cleveland Cavaliers (44.9 percent) are only separated by half a percentage point — making this a very narrow race for bragging rights.

Out of the top five, only Ingles is an actual prominent 3-point shooter, making 146 of his 322 attempts for the season, as the next three have yet to make more than 78 3-pointers in the season.

Despite his prowess from distance, Thompson is only averaging seven attempts per game, three less than his backcourt counterpart Stephen Curry and four attempts less than the leader in 3-point field goals attempted, James Harden, who has teed up a whopping 537 long-range attempts in 50 games.

No volume shooter (400 attempts or more) is shooting over 40 percent besides Thompson, Curry, and Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder — who is having a career year from beyond the arc.

Wisdom would say that due to Thompson's sheer volume, it's unlikely he could keep up this torrid pace, but the 6-foot-7 marksman is no ordinary man, as he and Curry both have managed to shoot over 40 percent in each season of their NBA careers, putting them in a league of their own.
