The Golden State Warriors just won their fourth ring in eight years, but make no mistake, they are far from done when it comes to chasing rings. That's at least according to Klay Thompson's dad, who shared his belief that the Dubs are eyeing the Michael Jordan standard.
Jordan won six rings with the Chicago Bulls, and per Mychal Thompson (via 95.7 The Game), it's motivating the Warriors and their core of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay to seek for more beyond their fourth.
“They won’t be complacent. You’ve got three competitors leading the way in Draymond, Steph and Klay. They’ve got four, but you know they want to get to five, they want to get to six,” Mychal explained.
A two-time champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, Mychal Thompson said that while the Warriors are not saying it publicly, they are more than thrilled with the idea of matching the incredible six titles of the Bulls.
“I can guarantee you they’re probably thinking, ‘Man, if we could only match with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, that would be great.' Now forget about Bill Russell. Nobody’s ever going to get to 11,” the former NBA big man added. “But six is the next standard, and I’m sure the Warriors are thinking, ‘Let’s get to six. Let’s try to match with Jordan.'”
It will definitely be interesting to see Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson attempt to win six rings. If they can do so, they'll definitely go down as one of the best, if not the most dominant team ever.
Four rings in eight years is no easy feat, and if they can add two more to that tally in the next two to four years, that would be an insane record that's hard to duplicate for any team.
