Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson will officially not play in the 2019-20 season, but he is expected to be ready to return by training camp, the team announced in a statement released via @WarriorsPR.

Thompson tore his left ACL in the final minutes of Game 6 of last year's NBA Finals, which the depleted Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors. According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, Thompson remains in contention for the 12-man roster that Team USA will send to Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The three-time champion and a five-time All-Star has spent his entire nine-year career in Golden State. He's averaged 19.5 points per game over his run, and the organization rewarded him with a five-year, $190 million max contract in July 2019.

The Warriors (12-43) have the worst record in basketball, though expect to be back in contention next season with a healthy roster, more time to implement Andrew Wiggins, plus a potential top draft pick. Two-time MVP Steph Curry will be returning from a broken hand, as both head coach Steve Kerr and owner Joe Lacob have recently insisted.
