Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson is optimistic regarding his playing status for Game 2 of the NBA Finals after suffering a left ankle injury in Game 1 vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And the expectation is that he will play tonight.

This is big for the Warriors who survived a Game 1 win in overtime against the heavily underdog Cavs who aimed to surprise and steal the first game.

Golden State is already down Andre Iguodala in this series as his status for returning remains doubtful.

While Iguodala is a key cog in terms of defending LeBron James, Thompson's All-Star scoring and defense makes his value even greater and if he were to be out of the lineup, the Cavs would just have that much greater of a chance to even the series.

Thompson had 24 points and made half of is 10 3-point attempts in Game 1. The Warriors will need his production to ensure taking care of homecourt.
