The Golden State Warriors back in 2017 cut one of Klay Thompson best friends on the team.

The Warriors bench has gone under a lot of turnover. They once had center Anderson Varejao on the team. Apparently, he and Klay were the best of friends and no one knew.

ESPN's Amin Elhassan went onto Warriors Wednesday podcast. Shout out to Reddit user, JesusSinfulHands for providing the quotes.

Story comes from Amin Elhassan from the latest Warriors Wednesday podcast. Here's the quote (lightly edited for clarity):

Amin: “Someone told me that when Varejao got cut, Klay went into this deep depression and at that time, that was the first time that anyone on the team realized that that was Klay's best friend. No one even knew until he got cut and Klay was all sad, and they were all like ‘Oh snap, that's your boy?' And it turns out, that was his on the road buddy, they'd go to dinner together, and they'd you know, have a couple of drinks together and stuff like that.” (54:14)

Although Varejao did not produce much on the court when he spent time with the Warriors, he seemed to be best friends and have a great connection with Thompson.

Since cutting Varejao, the Warriors went onto win two titles and Thompson contributed greatly to those titles.

Thankfully, Thompson got over his depression, which is a good thing because depression for anyone is a scary thing.
