Many people thought that Klay Thompson would be upset as the third or fourth fiddle on perhaps one of the strongest teams of all-time. Instead, Thompson has found a new target to reach: the prestigious 50-40-90 club.

According to Anthony Slater, Thompson said, “That'd be sweet,” when referring to potentially being alongside Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant in the 50-40-90 club.

The club itself is a very exclusive one. Because of the skill set required, very few players in the history of the NBA have made it in, with two of them being Thompson's current teammates. To get in, you have to average 50 percent shooting from the field, 40 percent from beyond the arc, and 90 percent from the charity stripe. Which is nearly impossible for people who aren't German 7-footers (Dirk Nowitzki) or arguably the best shooter the NBA has ever seen (Curry), to name a few.

That being said, Thompson is right around the corner. In his career, Thompson has averaged 45 percent from the field, 41 percent from downtown, and 85 percent from the free throw line. Last season, he inched closer to his goal, shooting 46 percent from the field, 41 percent from deep, and 85 percent from the free throw line. Amazing numbers, but still not quite good enough to appease himself. According to Ramona Shelburne, Thompson still believes that “You can always be more efficient.”

Only time will truly tell, but Thompson has a very good shot at hitting the 50-40-90 mark this season. That would mean that three club members would be on the same team, a ridiculous thought in and of itself.
