Golden State Warriors center Kevon Looney has played a key role in these playoffs, and he was at it again in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers. Looney played 29 big minutes off the bench in a 114-111 Warriors victory, and he was part of a dominant lineup in the second half that also featured Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green.

With Kevin Durant out, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr trusts Looney to be the replacement fifth man of the Hamptons Five, or the Death Lineup, whichever nickname you prefer. This group was a plus-18 in the second half of Game 2 as Golden State stormed back from a 17-point deficit, and Thompson noted afterward that having Looney out there instead of Durant is like a “mini Death Lineup” for the two-time defending champs:

Looney finished with 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting to go along with seven rebounds (three offensive), two assists, one block and one steal. He was a plus-8 in terms of plus-minus, the second-best mark on the team behind only Curry.

The 23-year-old has stepped up in a big way with Durant out, not to mention DeMarcus Cousins. Looney was pivotal in closing out the Houston Rockets in the second round, and the strong play has only continued into these Western Conference Finals.

The Warriors won't be getting Durant or Cousins back for these next two games in Portland and perhaps longer, so Looney is going to keep playing a massive role.
