Apparently, it only took a couple of weeks’ worth of trip to China over the summer for Klay Thompson to deem himself an expert in the Mandarin language.

Just how confident is Thompson in speaking Chinese? The sweet-shooting Golden State Warriors two-guard bared that if his team is looking for a Chinese interpreter, he’s volunteering himself to be one. At least that’s what he told reporters during the Warriors’ media day on Friday.

Thompson was in China last July to sign a new contract with Chinese sports apparel brand Anta, but he also took time exploring the country and mingling with his fans there. Barely anyone speaks English in China so you could just imagine the language barrier between Thompson and his fans. Basketball, however, is a universal language, which proves to be very useful for the shooting guard in trying to connect with his Chinese fans.

Oakland is home to a significant number of Chinese residents so it surely would help the Warriors tap into the Asian market more if it had a player who speaks fluent Mandarin.

Never change #ChinaKlay.
