Klay Thompson is on the final lap of his recovery, which has fans understandably stoked. The buzz is that the Golden State Warriors star will be able to make his return on Sunday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But Warriors head coach Steve Kerr still hasn't completely given the green light on that plan.

After Golden State's loss 101-96 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night. Kerr was asked about Klay Thompson's status heading into the Cavs clash. Kerr claimed it was out of his hands.

Via Anthony Slater:

“That’ll be up to Rick,” said the Warriors coach.

The Rick that Steve Kerr is referring to is Warriors director of sports medicine Rick Celebrini, who has the final say in clearing Klay Thompson for his much awaited debut.

Kerr continued:

“We'll have tomorrow off. We'll have practice Saturday. We'll talk to Rick and we'll see what's next.”

Kerr was understandably non-committal when it came to Klay Thompson's return date. But the discussion is finally on the day-to-day basis — meaning that if Klay does not return on Sunday, we're still so, so very close to the debut date.

After their loss against the Pelicans, Golden State dropped to second in the Western Conference standings. Getting Klay back is probably a good way to wash away the sour taste of defeat.
