Many consider the Golden State Warriors pairing of Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry to be one of the best backcourt combinations ever. Nonetheless, it still has a different ring to it whenever a true legend of the sport such as the great Jerry West utters a similar statement.

West earlier revered Thompson's role for the Warriors, saying how he personally felt that the 6-foot-6 shooting guard was the “perfect player” to pair with Curry. Thompson caught wind of the high compliment, and expressed his agreement with West's assessment:

“I'll never [forget] working out in front of Jerry back in 2011. And ever since then he knows I'm about that life #realGsmoveinsilence #webeenworkin,” Thompson wrote on his Instagram story on Sunday, via Ali Thanawalla of NBC Sports.

West was a prominent member of Golden State's executive board between 2011 and 2017, and he is widely credited for playing a significant role in the rise of the Warriors dynasty. One of the biggest contributions the two-time Executive of the Year winner provided for the organization is how he played his part in the team opting not to trade Thompson in 2011 to the Minnesota Timberwolves. As he explained previously, he felt that Thompson would be pivotal in not only the development of Curry, but also, that Klay would prove to be an important piece for the future.

Boy was he right.

Thompson has been out of action throughout the 2019-20 campaign, as he rehabs from a torn ACL dating back from the 2019 NBA Finals. He is, however, expected to be fuly healthy for the start of the next season, and knowing him, the five-time All-Star will be more than eager to make up for lost time.
