Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson's Achilles injury is indeed a season-ending tear, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. This will be Thompson's second consecutive missed season after he sat out the entire 2019-20 campaign with a torn left ACL.

Right before Wednesday night's NBA Draft, it came out that Thompson had suffered a right lower-leg injury during a workout. The worst was feared, and it has now been confirmed after an MRI.

The 30-year-old is reportedly expected to make a full recovery.

Thompson had been excited for his return from a long ACL rehab after suffering that devastating injury late in the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. The All-Star shooting guard looked good in recent workouts, and the Warriors were ready for Thompson and Stephen Curry to make it rain together once again.

Those plans are now foiled, and Golden State's championship hopes are likely shot as well. While the Warriors are still formidable with Curry leading the way, the loss of Thompson will be hard to overcome when it comes to title contention.

Golden State will apply for a Disabled Player Exception:

The Warriors also still have a $17.2 million trade exception to use that expires on Nov. 23, and it will be interesting to see if they dip into that now that Thompson is on the shelf for the season. The team's payroll is already through the roof.

Golden State bolstered its frontcourt rotation by drafting James Wiseman with the No. 2 pick on Wednesday. Now, there's more work to be done on the roster in the wake of Thompson's injury.
