SAN FRANCISCO — In Oakland's Oracle Arena, the old home of the Golden State Warriors, history was made by Bay Area star Klay Thompson. It was Jan. 23, 2015, when Thompson exploded for 37 points in the third quarter against the Sacramento Kings to set an NBA record for points in a quarter.

It was an extraordinary night, and since the anniversary of that special Warriors game just passed, Thompson talked about memories from that special moment.

“I was listening to a song called ‘Young and Getting It' by Meek Mill and Kirko Bangz, and that third-quarter, it's just such a blur,” Thompson told ClutchPoints. “I remember the shots at the end of the quarter the most because I was just hunting them, and especially that pull up on the free-throw line. That was a special night.”

It was nothing like anything the world had ever seen before. Thompson was a perfect 13-of-13 from the field and 9-of-9 from long range in that quarter. The three-time Warriors champion finished the game with 52 points and a victory over the Kings.

“My brothers were in the stands. … I remember what Jerry West said after the game too,” Thompson shared. “He said that he couldn't sleep because it was such an amazing performance, and when you hear something like that from one of the greats, that just gives you a lot of life, especially a lot of confidence on the court, and hopefully I can have a similar performance like that in the future. But that record might stand for a while. That was a very surreal moment for me.”

Thompson is coming off a 23-point performance in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, his best game of the season. Next, he and his fellow Warriors troops will play James Harden and the Brooklyn Nets to wrap up their seven-game home stand.
