The NBA refs twitter account has been a lot more active as of late, and during Game 3 they live-tweeted taking fans questions. One of the questions involved an outburst by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, that somehow wasn't called a technical foul.

He was called for a foul on Tristan Thompson late in the first quarter that he didn't agree with. He stormed down the court towards the  Golden State Warriors bench yelling a few obscene words and flailing his arms. The refs decided to let it go, and not give him second technical of the night, which would have resulted in an ejection. The NBA Ref Twitter account explained that they didn't give a technical because Green was walking away from the play.

“The response occurred as the player walked aggressively AWAY from the official towards his own bench. The TV viewer can see every word because the camera is following him. The officials let players have a heat-of-the-moment reaction without searching for something to penalize.”

That might be what the refs are looking for, but there have been plenty of players that have been given technicals for storming off or as some call it “showing up a referee.”

It seems that referees swallow their whistles for a lot longer after a guy has picked up their first technical, and that seems to be what happened in this case.

Green picked up his fifth technical of his season earlier in the quarter, which puts him only two away from seven technicals, which would result in an automatic one-game suspension.
