Nick Young hasn’t had the role he was likely hoping for when he signed with the Golden State Warriors this summer. Young is averaging just 11.4 minutes per game and has been overtaken by second-year wing Patrick McCaw in the Warriors rotation.

But according to Mark Medina of the Mercury News, the 10-year veteran realizes the situation he's in as part of a deep and talented championship team and is very much willing to learn how the team plays.

“I’ve been in this situation a couple of years back, but this is a championship team,” Young said after morning shootaround on Monday. “I sit back and watch these guys and how they go out and play and how they work. It helps me, too.”

Warriors coach Steve Kerr, for one, has praised Young's positive attitude throughout this trying time as he figures out his new role on the team.

“Nick’s an awesome human being. He always has a smile on his face,” Kerr said. “I’ve talked to him several times this year. He’s taking everything well. He’s figuring it out in terms of how we play and, also, it’s a new role for him.”

Young has set his mindset to be more of an instant-offense type of player off the bench, which he has played before. However, he realizes still needs to adjust to the Warriors' intricate style of play.

Young certainly gave a glimpse of that microwave mentality in the first game of the season against the Houston Rockets as he erupted for 23 points on 6-of-7 three-pointers in 26 minutes. It remains to be seen when Young will get that type of playing time again, but it sounds as if he’ll be ready to take it whenever it comes.
