The Western Conference championship celebration by the Golden State Warriors is a familiar refrain for the Bay Area squad, having accomplished the feat four straight times — but not for Nick Young.

One of the new players to join the team in the offseason was Young, who came to the Warriors as a free agent after not exercising his option to extend his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. This was all new to the veteran shooting guard who scored three points in 17 minutes in the 101-92 win over the Houston Rockets in Game 7.

Knowing that this was a first for the man known simply as “Swaggy P,” Ernie Johnson of “Inside the NBA” asked him about his thoughts regarding going to the NBA Finals for the first time in his 11-year career.

Ernie Johnson: “I just got one more question for a guy who’s going to the NBA Finals for the first time. Nick Young, 11 years in the league. You’re gonna turn 33 on Friday. So your early birthday present is a trip to the NBA Finals on Thursday. What does this feel like to do this with this bunch?”

Nick Young: “Um, I got a hat as you can see, T-shirt, and…”

Ernie: “You’re holding the trophy.”

Nick: “Yeah, thank you.”

Ernie: “What does it mean to get there at this point?”

Nick: “It means the world to me. I really don’t want to be interviewed right now. I wanna go turn it up. I wanna go have some fun but you’re interrupting my moment. But thank y’all for doing this stuff, okay. I’m gonna go have some fun. I don’t wanna talk to you. (he said this jokingly)”

Ernie: “Remember this day in NBA history, the day Nick Young said he didn’t want to be interviewed.”

Regardless of Young’s words, he’s definitely as happy as any NBA player can be after many years of not even playing deep into the playoffs. Now, he has a chance to win a championship with his new team. The Finals start on Thursday.
