Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors officially announced Tuesday that they have reached an agreement on a contract extension.

The terms of the deal were not released, but it is expected the new contract will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the NBA.

There was talk last summer between the two sides about a long-term agreement, but Kerr wanted to make sure that he was healthy enough to fill out a commitment to the team.

“We’re excited to have Steve under contract and poised to lead our team for the next several years,” general manager Bob Myers said in a news release. “Under his guidance, we’ve been fortunate enough to win three NBA titles in four years and his ability to thrive in all facets of his job is certainly a primary reason for our success. He’s a terrific coach, but more importantly an incredible human being.”

When Kerr took over in 2014 there were some questions about how he would be able to adjust to the job. He was a great player during his day but before becoming the coach of the Warriors he was a TV analyst for TNT. He quickly answered those questions, helping to lead the Warriors to the NBA title in his first year in charge.

The Warriors have won the NBA title in three of the four years he has been the head coach. In the four years, he has an impressive regular season record of 265-63 and a postseason record of 63-20.
