The bizarro saga of Patrick McCaw alienating himself from the Golden State Warriors after an offseason of questionable choices can be tracked back to a deep disconnect between the third-year players and the organization,

According to Logan Murdock of the San Jose Mercury News, the 23-year-old forward felt the team wasn't properly communicating with him, as one of the few times he personally talked to the Warriors was when the team tried to negotiate him giving up his No. 0 jersey for the incoming DeMarcus Cousins.

McCaw had quickly grown detached from this roster, as his teammates, coaches, and even the front office had stopped hearing from him directly over the course of the preseason, only having contact with his agent Bill Duffy.

The UNLV product has estranged himself from the team, as many began to wonder just who was advising him to play hardball with the defending champs, who upped their offer from a $1.7 million qualifying offer to a heftier two-year, $5.2 million pact at one point in the negotiations.

That latest offer was retracted after it became evident that McCaw had no intent to sign it, given his desire to garner a guaranteed rotation role with this roster, one had lost after plenty of hesitation with his shot and an untimely injury that set back his progress.

The Warriors were still insistent in keeping him, despite the clear standoff in negotiations, but after the Cleveland Cavaliers offered him a two-year, $6 million deal, it is heavily unlikely Golden State will choose to match, even if it is a non-guaranteed deal.
