The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets are on a collision course to meet in the playoffs yet again, and they may very well end up on a level playing field as far as rest goes heading into their probable second-round matchup.
With the Utah Jazz preventing the Rockets from completing a four-game first-round sweep on Monday night, Houston will now play host to the Jazz in Game 5 on Wednesday evening, which is also the same night that the Warriors will host the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 5 of their own series.
If both the Rockets and Warriors end their respective series on Wednesday, that means both clubs will earn the same amount of days off before their second-round meeting, as Anthony Slater of The Athletic points out.
Houston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its series against Utah, but the Jazz showed some fight and resilience in Game 4, throttling the Rockets and coming away with a 107-91 win.
Golden State's series has been a bit different.
The Dubs took a 1-0 lead with an easy Game 1 victory, but then, in Game 2, the Warriors blew a 31-point lead in what ended up being a four-point loss as the Clippers evened up the series.
Golden State rebounded in Games 3 and 4, coming away with a pair of wins at Staples Center to seize a commanding 3-1 series lead heading back to Oracle Arena.
Should the Rockets and Warriors win their respective series, they will meet in the playoffs for the fourth time in the last five years. The Dubs have won all three previous meetings.
