Golden State Warriors guard D'Angelo Russell enjoyed a bit of a breakout year with the Brooklyn Nets in the 2018-19 NBA season. It appears even point guard Stephen Curry had taken notice of the waves he was making.

Russell served as the focal point of a resurgence in Brooklyn last year. According to Diamond Leung of The Athletic, Curry was impressed with what he was able to do:

“The noise he made last year was amazing, what they did in Brooklyn, and him taking that next step as a certified All-Star.”

It is easy to see why Curry is excited about his new teammate. The Warriors parted ways with some serious star power in the form of forward Kevin Durant and center DeMarcus Cousins just to name a few. Fortunately, they managed to alleviate their losses a bit with the acquisition of Russell this offseason.

His career started on the West Coast when he was taken with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Following his tumultuous stint in Los Angeles, he enjoyed a resurgence in Brooklyn that culminated with his first appearance in the All-Stare Game last year.

Russell will now be tasked with helping to avoid any drop-off that the Warriors may experience moving forward. there has been plenty of speculation regarding their status as bonafide contenders with Durant gone and shooting guard Klay Thompson recovering from a torn ACL. The onus will fall on Curry and Russell to hold things down in Golden State in his absence.
