With Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson coming back next season, the Golden State Warriors had no need for D'Angelo Russell and thus traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins.

You could argue both teams won the trade.

The Timberwolves finally got their All-Star point guard next to star big man Karl-Anthony Towns, while the Warriors got a former No. 1 overall pick who can score the ball at will and run up and down the floor with the best of them.

Curry, who is expected to play in March, says the Russell for Wiggins swap made total sense:

“You look at our lineup and it obviously makes sense in terms of the position he plays and the skill set he brings with me and Klay coming back, trying to predict what that would look like,” Curry said after Warriors practice on Saturday, via The Athletic.

“He’s (Wiggins) shown some bright spots. I’m excited about it.”

Wiggins is averaging 22.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists with the Warriors in 31.9 minutes per game. He’s shooting an efficient 57.9 percent from the field, 52.6 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Warriors, however, are 0-4 with Wiggins in the lineup. They have the worst record in the NBA and are going to miss the playoffs for the first time in the Steve Kerr era.

Curry was averaging 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game on the season before he hurt his hand. He was shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 24.3 percent from beyond the arc and a perfect 100 percent from the free throw line in four contests.

Curry's return will at least make watching Warriors games more pleasant than it's been.
