With Klay Thompson still out, Stephen Curry may have just found the perfect co-backcourt star in Jordan Poole.
The Golden State Warriors pulled off a sensational season-opener win over the Los Angeles Lakers. But apart from learning that they were the better team that night, the Dubs also identified the player who could be of great help to Curry this season.
Heading into the game against the Lakers, the Warriors were keeping an eye on Avery Bradley, the veteran guard they have just waived. In the end, Bradley scored six points, four of which came off Curry and Poole’s defense.
This led to the revelation that Curry wants Poole to share the responsibility with him both offensively and defensively, hinting at a new Warriors team-up that will lead the team for the rest of the season.
“If we’re going to be great, me and you (Poole) have got to hold each other accountable,” The Athletic's Marcus Thompson reported via NBC Sports.
It can be recalled that Poole and Curry worked hand in hand during the Warriors’ preseason. And based on the pair’s performance against the Lakers, it appears that everything is working just fine, combining for an impressive 41 points.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr also acknowledged Poole’s contributions, suggesting that the youngster could be the next go-to guy after Curry.
“When Steph is on the bench and Jordan (Poole) is out there making plays, we're able to spread the floor and get the ball moving,” Kerr said via NBC Sports. “That group plays really well together. A lot of fun to watch.”
