Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry avoided major damage to his left foot, but he's still out indefinitely with a sprained ligament, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Curry suffered the injury in Wednesday night's loss to the Boston Celtics when Marcus Smart dove into him going after a loose ball. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was very upset by Smart's play, though Draymond Green didn't think it was dirty.

While it's good news that Curry didn't suffer a serious injury, this will still have a major impact on the Western Conference playoff landscape. The regular season ends in just under a month, and it's unclear when Curry will be healthy again and how he'll be able to perform in the postseason. Even if he's back for the playoffs (there is some optimism), he might not be 100%.

The Warriors are 47-23 on the season, which is good for third place in the Western Conference. Golden State is a game behind the Memphis Grizzlies and 3.5 games in front of both the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks. Curry's injury makes it much less likely the Dubs overtake the Grizzlies for that No. 2 slot, so the goal should be to just tread water enough to stay in that No. 3 seed.

This is such a tough break for the Warriors given they just got Draymond Green back, reuniting Curry, Green and Klay Thompson for the first time in years. Now it's Curry's turn to go on the shelf, putting a damper on their championship hopes. Golden State will just have to hope Curry heals up fast and is able to return at full strength for the postseason.
